Irenic Projects Public Labyrinth
Irenic Projects Public Labyrinth
2020

In March 2020 the stay at home order cut short the solo exhibition of Christina McPhee, and church services went online. Wanting to do something useful in exchange for my studio space, I decided to create an outdoor labyrinth in front of the church. With neighbors staying local, going outdoors daily and social distancing, the labyrinth became a way to enhance their daily ritual. It also invited the neighborhood onto the church property, beckoning them to think of it as public space / an extension of their home.

The inner design of the labyrinth changes from time to time, always following the criss-cross architecture of the concrete.

The Irenic Projects Public Labyrinth has become a semi-permanent feature of the church, and is still in use today. It is wheelchair accessible, and easily accessed from the sidewalk 24 hours a day. It is also noted on the World-Wide Labyrinth Locator at www.labyrinthlocator.com
